Shoddy Theatre Workshop
Join Shoddy Theatre for an energetic and interactive workshop exploring improvisation, ensemble work, and stage combat.
We begin with a series of fun improv and ensemble-based activities designed to build confidence, communication, creativity, and teamwork within the group. Through collaborative games and exercises, participants will develop trust and connection while learning how to work together as an ensemble.
Using our experience in stage combat and theatrical storytelling, participants will then create and rehearse short action-based scenes in small groups. These scenes will combine performance, choreography, and creativity to showcase the skills developed throughout the workshop.
The session concludes with an open Q&A, giving participants the opportunity to ask questions about theatre-making, stage combat, performance techniques, and the creative process behind Shoddy Theatre’s work.
Suitable for a wide range of experience levels, this workshop encourages collaboration, imagination, and physical storytelling in a supportive and engaging environment.
If you feel these workshops will be a benefit to your school, youth group, drama society etc, please get in touch at: Info@shoddytheatre.com
Over the years we have partnered with charities to produce free theatre workshops for children and adults in a bid to make theatre more accessible to all.
We have hosted workshops in new writing, clowning, stage combat and so much more.
In 2023, Shoddy was awarded arts council funding to bring theatre workshops to low socio economic areas in the North East. In our workshops we toured to areas such as North & South Shields, County Durham, Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Northumberland. The goal was to give young children an insight into how a creative team devises work, with the use of games and improv techniques. eventually the children put their new skills to the test and devised their own piece.
We have seen the impact these have on an individual and how much in can improve their confidence and ability to communicate.
Queens Platinum Jubilee
In June, 2022, for the Queens Jubilee, Shoddy teamed up with the charity Building Self Belief (BSB) to provide a series of theatre workshops, for the children of Tow Law Primary, with the goal of devising their own show for local residents.
The children worked extensively with BSB to research the Royal Family and events in the Queens life. Then as a company we came together and used their findings, to help facilitate and develop a story of their own.
The final part of the project was to perform the show in front of local residents who had been invited along to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.
